Yay!

Finally picked up my Arduino from the Post Office this morning. So far, I'm flashing a LED... hehe. The Arduino is a bit overkill for flashing LEDs... could have just made a simple oscillator for that, but I'm heading for bigger and better things. Kubuntu Gutsy didn't even flinch when I plugged it in and it was recognised straight away as /dev/ttyUSB0.

Installing

Just wondering why Windows Vista is taking 1 hour to unzip the arduino download....and if the answer I got from Arduino forum about Java root folder will solve my problem...and now wondering if I should cancel the unzip, I think it must be unzipped by now...

Arduino Workshop Sydney - 31 May 08

Learning a different game

Found an old PC in the office's storage cupboard, kicked XP off, Ubuntu on. Apache, Python installed and the Arduino software works too. We have a canvas. We're ready to get the crayons out.

The only spare deskspace is in the kitchen by the bin. PuTTYing in from the fresh air by my desk.

Our first project will be using a Python script to switch an LED on and off. We will then aim to replace the LED with a 60W red flashing bulb. Final piece to the puzzle is a radio button/receiv…
